چکیده

I find a topological arrangement of stocks traded in a financial market which has associated a meaningful economic taxonomy. The topological space is a graph connecting the stocks of the portfolio analyzed. The graph is obtained starting from the matrix of correlation coefficient computed between all pairs of stocks of the portfolio by considering the synchronous time evolution of the difference of the logarithm of daily stock price. The hierarchical tree of the subdominant ultrametric space associated with the graph provides information useful to investigate the number and nature of the common economic factors affecting the time evolution of logarithm of price of well defined groups of stocks. Financial markets are well defined complex systems. They are studied by economists, mathematicians and, recently, also by physicists. The paradigm of mathematical finance is that the time series of stock returns are unpredictable [1]. Within this paradigm, time evolution of stock returns are well described by random processes. A key point is if the random processes of stock returns time series of different stocks are uncorrelated or, conversely, if common economic factors are present in financial markets and are driving several stocks at the same time. Common economic factors were originally introduced by Ross in

Hierarchical structure of stock price fluctuations in financial markets

The financial market and turbulence have been broadly compared on account of the same quantitative methods and several common stylized facts they shared. In this paper, the She-Leveque (SL) hierarchy, proposed to explain the anomalous scaling exponents deviated from Kolmogorov monofractal scaling of the velocity fluctuation in fluid turbulence, is applied to study and quantify the hierarchical ...

Mutual Information Rate-Based Networks in Financial Markets

In the last years efforts in econophysics have been shifted to study how network theory can facilitate understanding of complex financial markets. Main part of these efforts is the study of correlation-based hierarchical networks. This is somewhat surprising as the underlying assumptions of research looking at financial markets is that they behave chaotically. In fact it's common for econophysi...

Extracting the correlation structure by means of planar embedding

The hierarchical structure of correlation matrices in complex systems is studied by extracting a significant sub-set of correlations resulting in a planar graph. Such a graph has been generated by a method introduced in Aste et al. and it has the same hierarchical structure of the Minimum Spanning Tree but it contains a larger amount of links, loops and cliques. In Tumminello et al., we have sh...
